'm afraid our ski season has come to a premature end. Although in past years March has brought some of our best snow, the 10 day forecast doesn't look good. If a surprise snow comes, we'll groom if we can and get out for one last hurrah before spring.
What is amazing is how long we were able to ski in such a low snow winter, and what great skiing we had thanks to the grooming volunteers and the equipment we ANSA members have supported through dues and donations. Time and again our ANSA grooming team turned a frozen layer into sweet skiing in conditions that would have left our prior equipment overheating.
Snowshoe trails here can be walked with yak tracks, so you can enjoy the pretty woods we all love. Ski trails in the woods are still mostly covered so are not ready for walking, and might even soften up on a warm afternoon for spring skiing for you diehards who want just one more ski.
A fitting end to the season was watching the Bates ski team out til dusk the other night, having a ball playing games in the kids' playing area. And ANSA set the tracks for the Special Olympics nordic races at Lost Valley yesterday. All in line with our ANSA Vision and Mission:
Vision: Auburn Nordic Ski Association: Nordic Skiing for everyone in the LA community
Mission: Auburn Nordic Ski Association promotes learning and enjoyment of Nordic skiing and outdoor winter recreation by maintaining expertly groomed trails that support fitness, family and community enjoyment, and skiing education and coaching at all levels from toddlers to adults.
There is still skiing in the mountains - Sugarloaf, Saddleback, Bethel Inn and Great Glen all have groomed trails and will be nice in the warm days ahead. Go have fun!
Boulder Nordic Sport in Portland has ski gear on sale if you need or want to upgrade equipment and clothing for next year.
The ANSA spring meeting will be in late April or early May. All are welcome to come be part of reviewing this season and planning for the next.
Thanks for being part of ANSA.
