(For photos, news and updates about our local Bill Koch XC ski program, see their Facebook page.)
ANSA and a group of dedicated volunteers provide a local Bill Koch XC Ski League for young skiers. Named for American Olympian William (Bill) Conrad Koch, this program gives kids a chance to spend time to play outdoors in the winter while learning to (Nordic) ski. Our Bill Koch XC ski lessons have grown steadily and it is inspiring to see and feel the energy that comes with getting 50 kids out skiing on a clear, crisp Sunday.
The Bill Koch/YMCA cross country ski lesson program runs for 6 weeks beginning in January. We happy to announce that Korin McGuigan will be taking over as the Program Coordinator for BK 2020. Thank you Korin!!!
To continue our success, we need to be sure we have the volunteer coaches to make it all happen! Therefore, we, the Bill Koch organizers, are inviting any ANSA folks to come volunteer and help inspire the next generation of skiers. We are looking for XC skiers of all skill levels to join us on Sundays from 1:30 - 3:00 PM to help assist the "coaches." (Or even be a coach.)
On the subject of equipment, unfortunately, the OSI ski lease equipment program is no longer. However, we are committed to ensuring that all skiers who would like to participate in lessons will have access to equipment. To that end, if you have any skis, boots or poles (child sizes especially) that you are no longer using, we would greatly appreciate any equipment donations to our BK program.
We are purposely casting a wide net with this email in hopes of reaching out to the larger nordic community. Many of our BK veteran coaches have "retired" and we are in need of new coaches for this winter season. If you or anyone you know is able to stand up on skis (or not!) you can be a coach! Many of our most successful coaches came to our program with little to no experience. Even if you would just like to learn more, please be in touch. Also, feel free to pass on this information to anyone you feel might be interested. Thank you for helping to spread the word.
Registration is planned to be open by Friday, November 22nd. To register, contact the YMCA in person, by phone 795-4095, or on the YMCA website. Cost of the program is: $45 for YMCA members or $65 for non-members (Youth Membership is $8.50 month EFT). Lessons will take place every Sunday starting on January 5th through February, 16, 2020. For more information, check the YMCA website.
Hope to see you on Wednesday, December 4th at 6:30 at the Auburn YMCA.
Think snow!
