ANSA is a private club with 501(c)3 status, formed to support Nordic skiing and related winer recreational activities in the Auburn area.  You can find us on Facebook: ANSA and Bill Koch.

Our vision: High quality Nordic Skiing for everyone in the LA community.

Our mission: The Auburn Nordic Ski Association (ANSA) promotes learning and enjoyment of Nordic skiing and related outdoor winter recreation by maintaining expertly groomed trails that support fitness, family and community enjoyment, skiing education, and coaching at all levels from toddlers to adult.

Our activities: We maintain both groomed Nordic ski trails and snow shoe trails. We support the Auburn Middle School and Edward Little High School Nordic teams and the Bill Koch Youth Ski League. We host some fun local events and occasional races. And, of course, we ski every chance we get.

Lessons and rentals:

  • ANSA doesn't offer lessons, but Nordic skiing is something that one can pick up fairly easily.
  • The closest rentals are at Carters in Oxford, or Pineland Farms in New Gloucester. Pineland offers group and private lessons.  Akers Ski in Andover, Boulder Nordic in Portland, LLBean in Freeport, and Northern Lights in Farmington sell equipment.  Snowshoeing doesn't require lessons - you just walk!  We have trails that go from our parking area through the woods, although in truth the beauty of snowshoes is that you can go anywhere.

Membership:

Detailed membership information is available here.

PLEASE encourage your skiing friends to join ANSA, and invite your not-yet-skier friends to ski with you. Help them learn how much fun Nordic skiing can be.

How to join:

Prices and the club application form are here.

Where we are:

The main access to our trail system is through Lost Valley in Auburn. If you are not a member of ANSA, please stop at the lodge and purchase a day ticket.  (If you are a member of ANSA, please feel free to use our private Perkins Ridge entrance.)

Governance, participation and feedback:

We are an all volunteer organization managed by a working committee of: Bruce Condit (president), Rick Speer (treasurer),  Amos Woodward (chief groomer), Norm Duphily, Steve Bennett (equipment manager), Ben Lounsbury (team education liaison), Peter Elias (media), Faith Barker,  Holly Ewing, Susan McHugh, Marsha Bennett.

If you would like to help, please let us know. The ski season is all too short, but the opportunities to contribute are many. In the Fall, we do some trail maintenance. There is grooming and grooming equipment maintenance. Signage. The Bill Koch program. Local events. Publicity. Photographs and stories for this site. And plenty of other things only YOU can think of.

Contact us with feedback and suggestions.

Thanks, and happy skiing.
